Education

Education

Training for migrants, students, and job seekers—ESOL, digital skills, and cultural prep for life and work.

Eastern Bridge Education was established in 2022 to support migrants, job seekers, and communities across New Zealand with accessible, relevant, and empowering education. A joint initiative between Simon Appleton, Tim Bloor, and Yao Hongzi, the organisation builds on Eastern Bridge’s long-standing commitment to migrant engagement and international cooperation.

In 2025, Eastern Bridge Education became a registered Private Training Establishment (PTE). We currently deliver programmes in Whakatāne, Ōpōtiki, Napier, and Hastings, with plans underway to expand our offerings across New Zealand and into international markets.

International

We are in the producess of developing our international offering:

Study Holiday Programmes

Hosting short-term international student groups. We offer per-prepared packaged study holiday programs. We can also develop and deliver bespoke study holiday programs.

Migrant / Domestic

We offer practical, learner-focused training. Fee free training for eligible residents, permanent residents, citizens and refugees.  Our programmes include:

ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages)

Beginner to intermediate classes focused on practical English for daily life, work, and community engagement.

Teaching essential computer, smartphone, and internet skills for modern living and employment.

CV writing, job interviews, NZ workplace culture, and understanding employee rights.

For migrants preparing for further study or permanent residency pathways.

Where we work

We operate local learning centres in:

  • Napier
  • Whakatāne
  • Ōpōtiki
  • Hastings

We also deliver training in collaboration with community partners and iwi organisations, tailoring our programmes to meet the needs of each local area.

Community and Economic Impact

Eastern Bridge Education focuses on outcomes. In 2024 alone:

  • Over 300 learners completed training
  • 95% of job seekers entered employment or further study within three months
  • 91% reported increased confidence in using English in daily life
  • Partnerships were formed with Ministry of Social Development, various training establishments, and local employers to place graduates directly into the workforce

Our work not only supports individuals—it strengthens entire communities by increasing participation, improving service access, and building social cohesion.

Why Choose Us?

  • We understand migrants. Our programmes are built around real-life needs and delivered by trainers with cultural competence and care.
  • We partner with purpose. We work closely with iwi, councils, government agencies, and community groups to deliver meaningful local outcomes.
  • We’re practical and adaptable.  We offer in-person and blended delivery models, and regularly adjust our content based on learner feedback.
  • We focus on outcomes. Our goal is to improve employment, social participation, and long-term wellbeing—not just deliver content.
