Research & Market Reports

Data-driven insights for better international and community decisions.

THIS SERVICE IS ONLY AVAILABLE TO ONGOING CLIENTS OR PART OF A PROJECT-BASED ENGAGEMENT. IT IS NOT OFFERED AS A ONE-OFF PUBLIC SERVICE.

Eastern Bridge provides targeted research and reporting services that help local governments, iwi, and regional organisations make informed decisions about international engagement and migrant inclusion. We offer both Asia-focused market intelligence and New Zealand-based migrant community research.

What We Offer

Eastern Bridge provides tailored research and market reporting services to support informed decision-making for local governments, iwi, educational institutions, community groups, and central government agencies. Our research is divided into two core areas: Domestic Migrant Research and International Market Intelligence.

Domestic Migrant

Since 2017, Eastern Bridge has conducted New Zealand’s most comprehensive independent survey of migrant sentiment. This annual survey gathers insights from tens of thousands of respondents in multiple languages, covering all 16 regions and select districts. It is widely recognised as a critical tool for understanding migrant experiences and is used by councils, schools, and government departments including Statistics New Zealand, Immigration New Zealand, and the Ministry of Social Development.

Our survey data captures detailed views on social integration, access to public services, safety, employment, housing, language challenges, discrimination, and other issues migrants face across Aotearoa. We offer:

  • District/City/Regional-level reports and insights to guide local policy
  • Custom analysis based on demographic or geographic filters
  • Workshops and briefings to help staff apply insights effectively
  • Targeted community research for specific projects or areas of concern

Our multilingual research team ensures high engagement across ethnic groups, and our in-house translators and data analysts make it possible to collect, interpret, and deliver data in a meaningful and accessible way.

International

Eastern Bridge supports New Zealand clients looking to engage with international partners through custom international research and reporting. Whether you’re seeking to strengthen a sister city relationship or looking to understand the education or tourism potential of a new region, we provide practical, on-the-ground insights.

We’ve helped clients:

  • Assess the business and investment climate of target cities
  • Evaluate the suitability of potential new sister city partnerships
  • Identify regional trends for product exports and marketing strategies
  • Map education and recruitment channels for international student programs
  • Profile tourism markets and recommend marketing approaches
  • Uncover funding, scholarship, and cultural exchange opportunities

With local knowledge and networks in China, South Korea, Japan, Vietnam, and other Asian markets, we ensure our clients receive grounded and realistic analysis—not just generic overviews. Our Beijing-based presence gives us added reach and verification capability within the China market.

Our Approach

  1. Scoping: We begin by identifying your organisation’s research questions and goals—whether it’s understanding migrant needs in your district or exploring demand for agritech products in Southeast Asia.
  2. Data Gathering: We draw on our own longitudinal datasets (e.g., migrant surveys), government statistics, academic sources, and local or offshore field research.
  3. Analysis: We translate raw data into practical, actionable insights. Where appropriate, we disaggregate findings by ethnicity, region, industry, or age group.
  4. Reporting: Clients receive a clearly written report with visual data summaries and practical recommendations.
  5. Presentation (optional): We can deliver findings through workshops, presentations, or briefing sessions for elected members or staff.

Why This Matters

Local governments and iwi need good data to make good decisions. Whether engaging with international partners or serving migrant communities, assumptions can lead to missed opportunities or ineffective interventions.

Eastern Bridge’s research:

  • Highlights unmet needs in migrant communities
  • Identifies market gaps and export opportunities in Asia
  • Supports evidence-based policymaking
  • Informs the design of effective strategies, communications, and services

We combine qualitative insights, cultural context, and statistical analysis—bridging the gap between numbers and real-world decision-making.
